Yes definitely Bedford CF MkI. The logo on the side is for Lucas Industries the major electrical components supplier so more information maybe available about how they modified the CF van. |

Data found to-date. In 1977 an electric delivery van assessment was made using a Bedford CF van with Lucas a large battery supplier. The Bedford/Lucas vehicle was also used in an assessment with the Royal Mail as part of the post office vehicle fleet. This led to the development of the Griffon. More than 100 of these vehicles saw extended service in Britain, and at least 30 were used in North America. One was in operation at Ottawa Hydro (as of 1998). One 1985 Griffon was imported from England in 1986 by the Florida Department of power as a research vehicle. http://www.econogics.com/ev/griffon.jpg -- Last edit: 2006-11-11 15:35:04 |

The main picture from the documentary is of an early (pre-facelift) Bedford CF van from 1972-1980. This confirms it is one of the prototype vehicles used for the original electric delivery van assessments in 1977. The later 'limited-run' production vehicles were based on the facelift vehicles produced after 1980 and these are the vehicles identified Bedford CF-E. |
