Shouldn't it be this one? 1980 Mercedes 230G http://www.boldride.com/ride/1980/mercedes-benz-230-g-popemobile |

This is the popemobile that was built by Officine Introzzi of Lipomo/ Como, Italy. Update: SCV 7 is the original 1980 Mercedes-Benz 230 G, donated by Mercedes-Benz to Pope John Paul II in 1982, nowadays on exhibition in the Mercedes-Benz Museum, Stuttgart. SCV 6 is the second one on 230 GE, which was modeled after SCV 7 a few years later. While Mercedes-Benz was deeply involved in the construction and never mentions an external coachbuilder, Officine Introzzi were apparently involved in the making of both popemobiles. -- Last edit: 2024-01-04 17:19:01 |

Interesting I didn't know the wider wheel arches were already used before 1982. OK, the popemobile is a good way to test it. The name is rather 'Papamobil(e)'. Should it be part of the model name like we do with the Fiats or extra info as we do with other Mercs? BTW, made for Vatican. -- Last edit: 2020-04-19 19:17:13 |
