The identification has been rather difficult but I think I'm right. |

You're on the right track, but the correct name would be: Crossley IGA1 Type 87 Vickers. Dowa was just a nickname, it was never built in Japan, they received 12 in 1925 and designated Type 87. The chassis and engine was made by Crossley, the body and armament by Vickers. |

Well… That is not exactly what I found: Dowa was not a nickname but a Japanese company: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowa_Automobile_Company They received and maintained the original IGA1 (Crossley-Vickers, yes), but build then 200(?) more. http://www.crossley-motors.org.uk/history/military/IGA1/IGA1.html http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/jap/ww2_IJN_Tanks.php |

Well, well, well. I had no idea that any such thing as Dowa Automobile Company existed, but I was aware that the Japanese made armoured cars based around the Vickers-Crossley AC. However, they were (to my knowledge) bigger, better equipped and six-wheeled, unlike the one in the picture above, which seems to be an original VC. It's also too old to have been made by Dowa. -- Last edit: 2013-10-01 19:01:36 |

Lots of unconsistancies in the articles or data I found, it's true. And the question of the 4/6 wheels is often brushed aside. So, let's stick to the Crossley, you're right. |
