This has the Caddy 390 ci V8 with (I think it's either a Carter AFB or Rochester QuadraJet) 4 barrel carb. |

I think it's interesting to note that in 1959, Although Cadillac was the flagship luxury division of General Motors, They did not have the biggest V8 engines, That honor went to Buick with their recently introduced 401 "Nailhead" V8 engine, In 1959 at GM, Chevrolet had the 283 small block V8 and 348 big block V8 engines, Pontiac had their decently introduced 389 big block V8, And like I said, Buick had their recently introduced 491 "Nailhead" big block V8 engine, Oldsmobile had their Rocket 371 and 394 big block V8 engines while Cadillac had the 390 V8, |

The Cadillac 390 was the final iteration of the first overhead valve 331cid V8 introduced in 1949. It's immediate predecessor was the 365. The Quadrajet was not introduced until 1966. The 390 was equipped with a Carter AFB 4bbl. Buick rated the 401 at 325 hp and the Cadillac 390 was also at 325hp. The Cadillac Q code 390 in the Eldorado (dual 4bbl) was rated at 345 hp. Oldsmobile's 394 was rated at 315 hp. |

I'm trying to determine the maker and model of this specific funeral coach, and I'd appreciate information/correction. Is it possible that this is a Superior Coach Royale Landaulet? I base my guess on the shape of the rear window and trim, along with the shape of the rear side-door and trim. Does anyone know the maker and model for sure? -- Last edit: 2023-10-13 00:14:52 |
