Alo, rpcm, there is something strange with this W115. The mirror is 1968+, but rear lights (chanelled) and front grille are pure 1973+. Maybe is an interim model 1972-1973, or it has been modified. Also driving wheel is 1970+. |

By the time of the film (1978) it was common to "update" these cars. About the rear lights, the steering wheel or even the gear knob, it's easy to change them, but its bootlid with the older handle, the doors with quarterlights and the front end with the specific valance and the plate placed under the bumper identify it as a 1968+ car. -- Last edit: 2013-07-06 01:38:52 |

The steering wheel was actually changed before the September 1973 facelift. This happened in February or March 1973. It could be a '73. The grille is the old one. Just the tail light have been changed. |

About the taillights you cannot be sure. Not neccessarily they were changed exactly with the releasing of the new model. Often, when the old parts were out, the last cars of the old series already got items of the successor. We have some more old version-W114/115 with 1973+ tailights here. |

All period magazines I could find include these features as new ones for the facelifted 1974MY car. Nevertheless, the German /8 club refers the introduction of the new steering wheel in February 1973. As I prevously said, it was not uncommon in period to "update" pre-1974MY cars with items that were easily changeable, such as the steering wheel or the rear lights lenses (the latter were easily found as non-original M-B aftermarket items and relatively cheap) among others. |
