Plate info for MBU 245W gives this as Chevette ES - seems our first one and a version I did not realise existed. Glass's says released Oct 80 as 3 door hatch and 2 door saloon, based on E (which continued alongside) with black bumpers and vinyl trim until E and ES stopped Sept 82. So is it ultra-poverty below E or a slightly less poverty E (like Ford did with Popular and Popular Plus trims)?? DVLA details are: Date of Liability 01 02 1994 Date of First Registration 24 02 1981 Year of Manufacture 1981 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1256cc CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type PETROL Export Marker N Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour BLUE Vehicle Type Approval Not Available |

Confirmed as ultra-poverty version - "October 1980 - Chevette ES 2-door saloon and 3-door hatchback introduced with similar specification to the E models but with even lower level of trim with vinyl trim plus carpets". Two and a half years later, another one pops up - /vehicle.php?id=876230 - "My dad had one as a company car for a year and it had plastic seats, no demister, one sun visor and the seats didn't recline. Even by the standards of 1980 this was brutal, basic transport and he hated it" |
