This layby coffee stop also appeared in a sequence in ep1.02 at about 10-00 onwards which gave a police SD1 sighting in comments for /vehicle.php?id=605048 , and might be a sort of thank you appearance. The minibus could be fun to sort out for exact name/model - plate info for DJP 71T gives 1979 Austin Morris unknown, blue, 1798cc diesel. DVLA says:
Date of Liability 01 03 1992
Date of First Registration 17 07 1979
Year of Manufacture 1979
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1798cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type HEAVY OIL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BLUE
Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

And how do I know the plate? Because it's on the back of the caravan (along with - for ingo - a Sprite badge):

It is Sherpa, all pre-Freight Rover ones, we have as Leyland at the site... (Yes, I know that for some time they had badge of the Austin-Morris).

So do we have our first Austin Morris Sherpa, or do we want to keep them all as Leyland? I don't have a strong opinion either way, and am happy to accept from past experience that DVLA do mix Austin/Morris/Austin Morris/Leyland names as it suits them rather than being 100% accurate.

Austin Morris name was cancelled in the early seventies before the Sherpa came out. ARonline says they used the Morris name after 1978 but they never carried a Morris badge (instead it was Sherpa).

In ca 1978/79 brochure (even if it is incomplete), it is already badged only as "Sherpa" and seems to be called just Sherpa too: Link to "www.ebay.com"
Then we see:
ca '76 - A-M (but badge of Leyland): Link to "www.ebay.ie"
1977 - Leyland: Link to "www.ebay.com"
1980 - called Leyland: Link to "www.ebay.com" - but it is less important, as it is some external company/manufacturer's brochure.
In other words, someone who decided in the past to make all of them "Leyland", perhaps has made a good decision :D

^ I have absolutely no idea how to solve that one - perhaps just rename it as a Transit and run away quickly?? As far as I can tell, HK used UK brand names, not export brands (but this is a grey area for some Rootes names for instance) so whatever was used in UK should apply for HK and vice-versa. I also suspect there was some HK local assembly for truck bodies (BMC/Leyland FG, Commer) to create their distinctive red livery produce vehicles, but this is strong suspicion, not confirmed fact and I can't see any reason to include anything Sherpa in that possibility. So on the discussion here, we seem from the HK example to have something which contradicts the accepted wisdom from ARonline (as Sandie's comment above) that "they used the Morris name after 1978 but they never carried a Morris badge"; however that may establish the HK one as 78+.

One of imcdb's recurring fascinations for me is how every so often we identify a problem, have a collective Great Thinking, come up with a well investigated conclusion to solve it, and then someone stumbles across a big pin to burst our balloon ....

I didn't read again the whole text at the ARonline, maybe there the Morris (they say "Austin-Morris") badge is not mentioned, but the front(!) "Austin-Morris" badge is mentioned in the description of the pic with the grilles.
I posted above the link to brochure from 1978/79, where the car didn't have this badge yet, but it already have it in the 1980/1981 edition: Link to "www.ebay.com" Maybe it was similar with the rear one...

Quote In August 1968, the fledgling BLMC decided to rebrand the larger Austin- and Morris-badged vans (and light trucks) as BMCs; this policy lasted until 1970, when the J4 and JU vans became “Austin-Morris” products and the Leyland brand was finally applied to their larger stablemates.

When the Sherpa was launched in late 1974, it also carried the Leyland badge. However, a few years later, the decision was taken to sell all vans up to and including the Sherpa under the Morris brand. Then, in 1981, the Sherpa was moved to Land Rover division, under the newly-created Freight Rover brand, and four years later the Morris brand was dead.

The badge on the 1980/81 van was also fitted to Morris Itals and Austin Metros of the period so doesn't mean simply Austin-Morris, but can mean Austin OR Morris.

ARonline's full Sherpa page for reference - Link to "www.aronline.co.uk" - does not give additional info to pursue this specific issue any further than already identified, but has a grille photo sequence and it seems 1978 was a big change point with O-series petrol engines fitted and a change to the front bumper minor lights which might be a useful recognition point in other cases. Plus various brochure/PR photos.
