A showmans engine used at fairs - steam powered similar to a traction engine. Road registered and very popular for restoration in the UK. -- Last edit: 2006-10-15 15:09:24 |

Found it! It is the Aveling & Porter 4 n.h.p. 5 ton Showman's Tractor 'Amelia', Works No. 7612 , Reg.No. [F5218] from 1912. http://www.sharpos-world.co.uk/mainindx/uk/indx/rally/crom2001/te1/20108112.jpg |

Maybe we could create a category for such vehicles? "very very old vehicles"? |

That's a good category!! Remember we talked about age classes a while ago ... probably somewhere on your never ending to-do list. As traction engines had a number of roles they are usually subdivided into 'Ploughing Engines', 'Road Roller', 'Tractor', 'Road Locomotive', 'Agricultural General Purpose Engine', and 'Wagon/Lorry'. The well known 'Showman's Engines' are usually Road Locomotives, some of which can pull up to 120 tons (!), while some smaller Tractors were also converted for Showman's use, like the one we have here. As I don't really want to squeeze the steam driven vehicles into the other categories -- would be difficult to find them -- we could start a new category 'Traction Engine', or, if steam engined cars shall be included like the Stanley, 'Steam Engine'. I know that this doesn't discribe the vehicle type, but the engine type, but the only other solution would be to lenghten you to-do list. This would mean adding an extra field for the engine type ('Steam', 'Electric', 'Internal Combustion') and make this field searchable. |

I do not think that an engine type field would be useful. "stream engine" could be good to put these old things |

Okay, let's use 'Steam Engine'. Most members and visitors to the site will understand that phrase the way it is ment. |

OK it is added |

I think I've got them all listed. I didn't list the Stanley cars, though. |
