For the pilot episode (1.01), a 1980 GMC Pickup was used as the main truck. The side badges said "High Sierra 25". There was one scene that showed the 1982 GMC truck that they used for the rest of the season. I guess that was one of the last minute tweeks to the pilot before airing. The 1980 truck is used in other episodes of season 1 in stunt scenes. -- Last edit: 2010-10-28 05:59:02 (ford_guy) |

The school bus jump was awesome. I like how the tailgate instantly broke off when the truck landed on it's rear end. |

That must be the jump that finally totaled the truck beyond repair. They wrote that the jump truck was ruined after that scène was finished. Apparently it was more violent than some of the previous jumps. |

I don’t think it broke off, but just came off due to the shock. The tailgates are not permanently attached to the trucks, like the doors or hood; they are designed to be removed/or put back by the owner if needed. This would explain why they easily come off during the stunts. |

The last thumbnail shows the 1982 K-2500. |

Indeed, the last four thumbnails should be placed on the 1982 K-2500 page. The truck was retrieved from the pool, dried out, started, and used again in future episodes. These trucks didn’t have a lot of electronics. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that GM really started introducing on-board electronics for these trucks. 1987 introduced electronic ignition controls, engine management, and electronic throttle body fuel injection. A K-Series Fleetside/Wideside with a mere four inch suspension lift can ford 33 inches (838 mm) of water without further modification. No snorkel needed. A factory K-Series Fleetside/Wideside could ford about 29 inches (737 mm) of water. -- Last edit: 2010-11-09 17:32:49 |
