Thanks, that helps a lot. Jaguar XJ [Series I]. Compare to: /vehicle_393482-Jaguar-XJ6-Series-I.html (S2 Jaguars and Daimlers of both had more noticable rear plinths). Can anyone fill in the rest of the details? |

NZ XJ6 exports to Aus started Sept 71, although previous exports from UK are likely. This looks the early crimson colour used from UK launch in Sept 68, and I think the rear badge is the XJ6 format with engine size 4.2 (or 2.8) in big figures over Litre in small ( as eg /vehicle_18268-Jaguar-XJ6-Series-I-1969.html ) compared to later format of X J above 6 (eg /vehicle_112093-Jaguar-XJ6-Series-I-1969.html ). I can't date the change from Glass's info, so unsure if this is pre-sept 71 - however as the 2.8 was still made until Sept 73, it may have been later. Something for the to-do list? Anyway it's not an XJ12. And there's a Jag Mk2 alongside. |

Have given it NZ-for-Aus ID to stand a better chance of being noticed if/when further dating info available. Update - we have two 1972 XJ6s (as plate dated) with the early badge style - /vehicle_106822-Jaguar-XJ6-Series-I-1972.html , /vehicle_98223-Jaguar-XJ6-Series-I-1972.html - so this one could be NZ assembly. -- Last edit: 2013-05-03 04:21:37 |

Some S1 info here: http://jaguarxj.info/Jaguar%20XJ%20Series%20I.htm (scroll to the bottom). Most relevant part there could be 1971 - Radio aerials no longer possible to fit on front wings. (This car has an aerial on the rear, so would this be 1971 and up? but it doesn't say explicitly anything about rear aerials) |

Yes - I'd been looking at that page as well. Had not realised all Daimlers have central bonnet chrome strip - that's a point to store for reference and check for S2 and S3 as well. |
