Plate is xRS 85 - just can't get a clear read of the first letter, but suspect B/C/D. However BRS would give early 1945, so not pre-war. Is it a Commer Superpoise? From an extras film "Caller Herrin" (1947) - http://ssa.nls.uk/film.cfm?fid=0388 - a Central Office of Information film for the Scottish Home Department. Some footage used in main film, but nothing with this truck. -- Last edit: 2013-04-30 14:37:10 |

This is a Kew built Dodge, this shape of cab commenced in 1938 and was used until replaced by the "parrot-nose" pressed steel cab. BRS commenced in December 1944 issued by the Burgh Council of Aberdeen and ran until September 1946, so 1945 is correct for this vehicle, which looks to be a 6-tonner with the twin rear wheels. |

Is that UK origin? Is 6-tonner a formal name (we don't have another or anything obviously similar)? 6-Ton? |

Kew is in South London and was the headquarters of Chrysler, De Soto, Plymouth and Dodge for UK, but the cars built/assembled here always varied a bit from their US originals. These trucks are British design although the petrol engine was of US origin. The diesel was a Perkins and the these vehicles were built at Kew, not just assembled from kits. There are two pictures of this model on page 47 of S W Stevens-Stratten's book "British Lorries 1900-1992" where they are referred to as 6ton. I have never heard of a model name for this series. Link to "www.flickr.com" Short wheelbase 6ton tipper. http://rustytrucks.tripod.com/id15.html Not terribly grammatical, but it should help to prove my veracity. -- Last edit: 2013-04-30 19:24:49 |

No slurs intended on your veracity. I just wanted to tick the boxes correctly. |

That was my problem; I knew it was a Kew Dodge - I may have identified one elsewhere - but when I couldn't find a model name or number I thought I'd better shut up |

None taken, I just like to prove that my research is thorough. -- Last edit: 2013-04-30 20:42:22 |
