Shouldn't the origin be Japan, since it's essentially a restyled Mitsubishi ASX?

Yes, and the C4 Aircross and the 4008 are also much more expensive than the ASX.

About how much more expensive?

I know that in the UK, an ASX starts at the equivalent of around $1,500 more than a base US market Outlander, and the equivalent of almost $5,000 more than a base model US market Outlander Sport (pretty much the exact same vehicle, aside from RHD and engine choices).

The basic ASX with 117hp petrol engine and 2WD starts at 18990€, the C4 Aircross with the same engine costs 23990€. The Peugeot 4008 is only available with Diesel engines. The cheapest one is a 114hp AWD model, which starts at 32090€, but it's better equpipped than the Citroen.

Alright, let's see...

US market Outlander Sport base price is $19,170, or about 14564€.

Basic ASX 18990€ = about $24,994, or $5,824 more expensive.

Basic C4 Aircross 23990€ = $31,575, or $12,405 more expensive.

Basic 4008 32090€ = $42,236, or $23,066 more expensive.

Talk about a big price gap...

I really don´t understand the strategy of Peugeot and Citroen, because the ASX is much more popular than the 4008 and C4 Aircross in Germany. But nearly none of the foreign car makers have successful SUV´s in Germany. Only Hyundai ix35, Kia Sportage, Skoda Yeti, Nissan Qashqai are good selling here.

The price structure is probably defined by Mitsubishi in the supply contract to ensure the ASX attracts the highest buyer interest, and I think I read that ASX updates always have several months advance availability before reaching C4 and 4008, so Mitsubishi are in full control to make sure Peugeot-Citroen versions can not damage ASX sales or reduce Mitsubishi profit. Peugeot-Citroen probably not too bothered - their intent was to have showroom presence above their existing range in case loyal buyers wanted to move up, but nothing more direct than that. And I think Mitsubishi got a supply link for PSA diesels in return.

If the ASX would only cost 14564€, it would sell even better. For that money, you usually get a mid-spec VW Polo.

I looked on the american Ford and VW website and found out, that also the bigger Escape and Tiguan are much cheaper than european models.

US Ford Escape: $22470 = about 17000€
EU Ford Kuga : $31700 = 24000€

US VW Tiguan: $22995 = about 17404€
EU VW Tiguan: $32304 = 24450€

cars are usually cheaper in USA, and in addition of that you probably compare US tax-excluded prices with EU VAT-included prices. Also, in EU car prices may vary a lot from one country to another.
