This car is not a 72. It is a 71 Charger with a stripe pattern unique to this car. How do i know it's a 71? The side-marker lights changed from 71-72, and those are the 71 lights. Also, the 71 R/T had the two-vertical-scoop doors. No other year had those doors. For 72, they went with 5 stamped depressions stacked vertically on the front of the doors, available only on the "Rallye" Chargers, which replaced the R/Ts. But this car is also kind-of a mut, as it has the R/T-style doors and Rally wheels, but no R/T grille, hood, or emblems. It's got me a little puzzled. |

And if you look really closely in the picture, there looks to be another 1971 Charger parked against the curb in the background behind the van. |

![]() The van behind it is a Dodge Sportsman/Plymouth Voyager and behind that is either another Charger or a Pontiac LeMans/GTO. |

This looks more like a 1973 because its headlights are the same as the 1973 ones. |

That car is not a 73. The 1973s had different doors, different back windows, different grilles, and different side marker lights. It's a 71, trust me. |

IT's a '71. I know cause I own one. It's the only year for those divided marker lights. |

On the 71, anybody notice that the rear wheels are not Rallye wheels like the front, but some kind of "one off", maybe even steel wheels painted hillbilly chrome? The Charger (and I'm pretty sure it is one) behind the van looks like a 73 to me. I spent about 20 minutes watching and rewatching the DVD and I'm pretty sure it's a more basic model of the 73, black vinyl top, but not the full top like the "SE" model would have gotten (plus the "SE" had window louvers on the rear quarter windows). The grill, marker lights, and body shape all make it look like a Charger to me, the way the vinyl top is attached and the way the window openings look tell me it must be a 73 or 74, and since the movie was made in 74, I'm guessing it is a 73 since it doesn't look brand new. The only confusing part to me is the color, it's not a high impact color and I don't think I've ever seen a light yellow color for an old Mopar, guess I'll have to check the color codes for that year. If anybody gets a better look at this car on a high def or big screen, please give me some feedback. I've owned three 73 Chargers and I'm really curious to know if I'm right. |
