The car is an Essex most probably a 1923 model made by the Hudson car company in the USA. It is definitely a 4 cylinder model built between 1919-1923. The particular fender shape indicates the 1923 date. The car was probably fitted originally with a 5-seat tourer (convertible) body. It now seems to have been modified into a 2-seat utility/buckboard/pickup commercial vehicle. The car as is looks quite original except for the mentioned modification. The two T-Ford type side lights fitted to the headlight cross bar are not original and possibly used as direction turn indicator lamps. The other lights and mirrors on the windscreen posts are also not original. These were good cars, being well designed and constructed and having a good turn of speed, all at a reasonable price. During their time they were modified and used in speed competitions in Argentina, Australia, Canada, UK, and USA. |
