@dsl, @jfs, seems to be a 1959-60 Mark I 1600 (badge, front and rear lamps) or rather 1960 1600 De Luxe with these Twin Cam wheels?

Mk1 grille, on both the red and the white. Mk1 tail lamps where visible.

TC had centre lock disc wheels as standard, red car has wires which must be an extra.

1600 deluxe Mk1 had 1588 cc pushrod engine, Mk2 had 1622 cc pushrod engine, (sound familiar?).

I don’t know how to tell them apart, but Mk1 grille suggests 1588cc car, only 82 built. Extras suggest 1622 cc car, 313 built, but grille doesn’t.

I am indebted to Graham Robson for this information. You may know from my ramblings about Bentleys that if a modification is easy to do, like swapping headlights, I tend to discount it as a means of identification. How easy would it have been to change the grille on either car? If you agree with me that it’s not easy, then plump (ooh! haven’t had one of those for ages) for the Mk1.

By the way, BSK is an ‘age related’ mark allocated for re-registration and general jiggery-pokery by DVLA between 3/90 and 3/92, so useless for dating.

I missed the wired wheels... No Mini lamps, it is likely a Mark I at least. As a car for comment section that's close enough - even if it would be a challlenge to get more details.

The question remains though, if the owner of a classic like this would let it be altered, or if he would keep it original... But sometimes, alas, it all comes down to part availability, or even legislation (like adding amber indicators under a bumper)

As far as I can see, they're both normal July 1959+ Mk1 1600 roadsters (no need to invoke Twin-Cam or Deluxe), though each having odd plate info and/or dates which smell of imports with maybe RHD conversions/restos.

White MSK 656 has normal 59+ rear lights in this pic. Red BSK 634 listed as 1959 1600 roadster "Export model. Professionally restored in the early 90s to a very high standard." in this ad.

In case helpful, Mk2 grille had inset bars instead of flush and horizontal rear lights - possibly shared with Mini Pickup.

Solved and updated in a flash. Thanks, both.

My 1953 Bentley R-type has a tow bar, added by me, flashing indicators using the spot lights with yellow bulbs and motor cycle indicator lights on stalks fitted to the rear over-riders, non-standard paint and lots of rust. I am not prepared to spend £50k on a partial restoration on top of the £10k I have already spent on the engine, so I am considering the way forward.

I had the tow bar made up by a local engineering company, and upon collection asked if it had been sufficiently specified to tow a boat. The reply was that if I could get under the motorway bridges I could tow the QE2.

Indeed. I think I've seen an grease covered @jfs in the engine bay :king: Other adjustments are of course needed to keep it road legal as well as suitable for your needs. Not a showcar, is it, but a car you can enjoy every day you sit in it. Pleaase do. Enjoy it.

I can’t get in the engine bay any more.

There’s a completely rebuilt engine in there!

It was you, or the engine. Luckily, the engine won

MSK 656, I've owned this car since 2003. She's still a great runner and have just completed a road trip around England including a visit to Aidensfield (Goathland) in North Yorkshire.
