Commander 57 US

Appears to be a 1950 Commander but hood ornament is a bit too blurred to tell for certain.
1950 style spinner.

That's how the car looks today: Link to "www.bocholt-links.de"
It's still owned by Bavaria film production company, they say it's a Starlight. When I visited the studios in early 1990s it still was in shiny condition. I must have a photo somewhere with the car and me at age 13.

Thanks for the photo link and it indicates the car is a Champion rather than a Commander.
It is also a later '50 owing to the chromed headlamp rims. (All early 1950 Champions and Commanders had painted rims.)

Obviously not a Starlight as it is a sedan and has a divided windshield.

Regal Deluxe owing to the just visible bright rocker mouldings.

Front fender nameplate is missing and car is obviously not painted a stock color!

Seen it lately in Bavaria Filstudios on the outskirts of Munich, parked on the curbside of a small way, looks rusty and abandoned, the interior falling into pieces. Looks like this Link to "club-sonus.sony.de"
It's waiting for it's restoration for about 2 years now (Link to "www.bavaria-film.de"), but the guide said, they might let it go and leave it alone, until break down upon itself...

is this rare and expensive enough to make it worth for a US collector to buy it and restore it ?

People looking for Studebakers usually want Starlights not four-doors.

Makes me different in that regard. I have always preferred the solid, symmetrical look of a 4-door sedan.

have you considered to perhaps buy it ?

Normally I don't make comments about the star-rating here, but it hasn't a minor rule. It was the mascot/identification object for the movie and -much more- for the whole series.

It may have a minor role in the movie, but as Ingo stated, it had a major role on the TV show. Pretty much every kid of my generation that grew up in the 1980s knows this car, as it was the Formel Eins trademark car. Watching Formel Eins was an absolute must if you were interested in contemporary music in any possible way - it was the one and only source to watch the latest music videos in pre-MTV-times, when hardly anyone was able to receive commercial TV and we weren't even dreaming of Youtube and stuff like that. The show's impact on everyone's youth and musical experiences was massive. If you watched Michael Jackson's Thriller on German TV in 1984, you watched it on that show, because there was no plan B. The pink Studebaker is a German pop culture icon and was about as famous as the Batmobile, the Bluesmobile or the Ecto-1 in the US.

It was originally a barn find in poor shape before it was seen on Formel Eins almost weekly between 1983 and 1990 and they put it on display after Formel Eins ended. Apparently it still belongs to Bavaria Film of Munich.

Here is the Studebaker in Formel Eins episode 50, but I recommend watching the entire video with various acts performing between cars and wrecks, which was a trademark feature of this show.
