[L040]. The LWB Pajero was released in 1983. Was it the same for the Shogun?

Shogun is the UK name for the Pajero. If this is left hand drive, it's not a Shogun.

We need a thumbnail showing the interior to see if it's RHD. Are there really Pajeros in the UK?

What I don't know is if the LWB Shogun came out in 1983 like the Pajero or if it was later.

I'd see this as a RHD due to the angle of the left-hand-side rear-view mirror. The 5-door was launched in Japan in July 1983, so I'd say MY 1984+.

UK motor trade guide called Glass's http://www.glassguide.co.uk/ - as well as the usual monthly price guides they do an annual Car Check Guide covering every model sold in UK, listing dates, versions, specification, changes etc. Old ones sometimes surface on ebay.

An interior view shows it's LHD:

It's a Pajero brought to the UK. Then it's 1983+.

Like I said, the 5-door was launched for the Japanese market in July 1983, so it's at least a 1984 MY, particularly in Europe.

No I said it released in 1983 first. If you're going to list this as a year later than a majority of the Pajeros with years labeled are wrong. If the second-generation came out in 1991 in Japan then we have all the 2nd gen. Pajero's labeled as at least 1991. Many of these Pajeros are in the Middle-East or else where in the world. So you are saying all those should be at least 1992?

How do you know they didn't release the 5dr later in 1983 to Europe?

Yes, I know you said it was released in 1983 first. This is correct, but for the sake of accuracy these should be labeled as 1984 models at the earliest. And yes, some Pajeros have to be corrected then. That's easy, I could do that. Why do you bring up the 2nd gen? That has actually nothing to do with this. The 5-doors were available since the beginning for those - 1991 in this case. When the Pajero was launched in May 1982, there was no 5-door version - it didn't appear until July 1983 according to Japanese wikipedia. This conflicts with the English one, saying that it was as early as February 1983. I tend to trust the Japanese one the most.

I didn't say the five-door wasn't released later in Europe, I was saying they probably did (God this is confusing). And 1984+ as default would then be the most logical solution, in my opinion.

So what you are saying is all the other countries received the 2nd gen. in 1991 when it was created but they waited at least 5 months until 1984 to release the 1st. 5dr to Europe etc.?

Look, the 2nd gen Pajero was launched in early 1991 (January), while the 5-door 1st gen was launched in mid 1983 (July). That's the point. With the "5 month delay" in mind, it's relatively easy to calculate when these two were launched in the EU market. While the 5-door 1st gen would be a 1984 model at the earliest, the 2nd gen would be an early to mid-1991 model at the earliest.

And even if it was created earlier than 1984, it would still be a 1984 model. I'd consider July to be the point where vehicles switch from the calendar year to the next model year. Then again, this all comes down to what the manufacturer has in mind. If Mitsubishi intended the 5-door to be a 1983 model, we can change it back, indeed. However, I wouldn't dream of launching a car in the middle of the summer and claim to buyers it's the car of today or yesterday (while this is true it's not a good tactic for increased sales). Temporarily listing it without a year seems to be the other option, until we can get some information about launch dates and/or year-to-year changes. It could be that this turns out to in fact be a much later model, it's just that we currently lack the information to see/prove it.
