There is a certain similarity to an Opel Manta - but was this one ver sold in the US? |

I believe those were the last regular models sold in the US. We had the Kadett B & C, the GT, the Ascona, and the Manta sold at Buick Dealerships in the 1960's and 1970's. -- Last edit: 2010-03-14 01:02:18 (G-MANN) |

Yes, the last German made Opel models sold in the USA were the Ascona A and Manta A (aka Opel 1900, Sportwagon and Manta) between 1971-75. The Kadett B was also sold from 1966-72 but featured the European Opel Olympia front grill from 1969 onwards. The "real" Kadett C was never sold in the US but the 1976-79 "Buick/Opel" was in reality an Isuzu built version of it (aka Isuzu Gemini). The Opel GT was also sold thru 1973 as well and the bulk of GT's built went to the US. No larger Opel models were ever officially sold in the US, at least from the mid 1960's onwards.. |

I think this was at the Des Plaines oasis. |

Which part in Des Plaines are you referring this to? |

The oasis; it straddles I-90 just east of the Elmhurst exit. |

Isn't the Cadillac Catera an Opel Omega? |

Indeed. I guess hiergehts is referring to models that wore Opel badges on the US market. The Saturn Astra and Vue were also rebadged Opels and the Aura was heavily related to the Vectra [C]. |
