This is a Mk I and was already called Commer Imp van. |

Agree Commer. Launched as Commer Imp Van Nov 65, renamed Hillman Imp Van Oct 68 when range facelifted and the van got new front panel trim. Killed off July 70 after 18,194 (both names) made. All production apparently at Commer in Luton, so it's not Scottish like all other Imps. Rumours of some Portugese CKD assembly. One question I've never found an answer for - did they become Sunbeam Imp Vans for some export markets? |

Is that true? Do you have a source for that information? Firstly Dunstable was the van plant from the mid-1950s with the old Biscot Road Luton factory used for Commer/Karrier special vehicles. However I don't remember Commer or Hillman Imp vans at Luton or Dunstable at all but could be wrong. -- Last edit: 2012-08-03 13:44:21 |

Luton production implied (sorry!) in opening lines of http://www.imps4ever.info/family/van.html but this is the only mention I've found so far. But I have just found book confirmation that Sunbeam Imp Van badging existed, and an explanation for the very high roof that one design brief was to allow full-size milk churns to be carried. |

Yes dsl, just found the imps4ever site... "Manufacturers: Commer Cars Ltd., Luton, Bedfordshire." would be the registered address for the company as the headquarters were still in Biscot Road, Luton. Badge engineering therefore I guess and so Scottish manufacture on the normal Imp line... -- Last edit: 2012-08-03 14:16:15 |
