I know it is a Mk1 Cortina but we should be able to be more precise than that. |

There is no brightwork on the body sides, and no overriders on the bumpers, but the grille is polished. The design of the grille is the original one, as on the De Luxe cars from their introduction in September 1962 (two door) until the October 1964 facelift when the aeroflow ventilation was introduced. Therefore the suggestion is 1962+ Ford Consul Cortina De Luxe (Mk 1 is not really necessary as there was no other Mark Number of Consul Cortina), the badge on the bonnet says Consul, the one at the back should say Cortina. It is not possible to tell the size of the engine, but the standard choice was 1200cc, with a 1500cc being available at extra cost. There is an outside chance that it may be a GT, the badges would be on the rear flanks and are not visible in this picture, but as this was not introduced until April 1963 it is unlikely. -- Last edit: 2012-07-29 12:06:04 |

With the 17M entry, Senegal seems to mirror France for having Ford UK and D products on sale side by side. As Mk1 Cortina sold very well in France, it's logical to find one here (but fascinating as well). Ford had an "African" spec for Cortinas (also used for early exports to Aus before local assembly started) - strengthened body mountings, suspension, more powerful ventilation fan etc. |
