Not a Brazilian origin.

Water cooled engine in Mexican market, so 1988 or later.

What then, Mexican origin? Brazil and Mexico each developed their own watercooled Typ 2?

The body is from Mexico, not from Brazil. Brazil did develop with the T2 body with raised roof in 1995.

OK, thanks. Do they have the same engine? Who developed that?

According to the Spanish version of Wikipedia, they were using the Golf 1.8 litre engine. See the link I posted

Is the Mexican one also an hyrid between T1 and T2 like the Brazilian one? Or is it a "true" T2?

Mexican never made the T1/T2 hyrid version. Indeed it is the true T2 from the Mexican market.

Sorry rj...

This is a Brazilian T2 imported to Mexico as it has the new mirrors and the bulkier (flat black?) grille (not sure when that came?)

1997-2001 would be the range for the BR T2 in MEX. 97 was the last year for the T1/T2 hybrid, which, indeed, was never sold in Mexico. However, as 1996/1997 (PY/MY) and 1997/1997 still brings the hybrid and 1997/98 onwards only the "classic" T2, I'd say the first model year would be 1998.

Leaves the question - if 1996 was the last year they were made in Mexico, which would leave only the hybrid for 1997 which they didn't import, did Puebla production actually finish in 1997 or did they take a one year break from the T2?
