After trying and failing to get a match for a big Aus Ford (close but no cigar) I tried Holden - 1980-83 Statesman Caprice [WB] - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Statesman_WB_Caprice.JPG . But may not have had Holden name, with Statesman as make?

I think with these that even though, as the article in the link states, they were marketed as a separate make, they were always regarded as Holdens. They were built by Holden using Holden parts - the only thing missing is the holden badge. There was no separate dealership setup. They were sold and serviced by Holden dealers. They only sold in very small numbers anyway. So far, on this site all of the Statesmans have been listed as Holdens.

There is conflicting information on various sites but I think the lesser model was the Statesman Caprice and the higher spec Statesman De Ville had the badge on the grille - both coded WB, which is confusing as the WB was also a utility model around that time.

The WB series 'GM Caprice' as it was called in Hong Kong was one of the last Holdens offically sold in the HK market. Holden (well the HX-HZ Statesman De Ville, the Premer and Kingswood wagon were also sold) was seen as an executive car more reliable than the Jag but by the WB the price had gone up and petrol much more expensive. I think these were the main reasons for its demise; perhaps someone closer to it at the time can correct me. I saw a silver Caprice like this one when brand new in a shopping centre opposite what was then called the Connaught Centre on a stand as it went on sale in January 1981. Even got a price and a brochure for it from the salesman, from Far East Motors. They only sold something like 11 Holdens in HK in 1981. Probably all WBs. I saw one in SCMP Classifieds back in circa 1985 and already they were worth next to nothing - I even toyed with the idea of shipping one to Aus.

This is a great website, I've seen a few Hong Kong Holden export models here now.
