Yes thats right. It's a customized 1985 Trans Am convertible authorized by Pontiac untill they made them in the factory one or two years later.

Its not a Trans Am, no ground effects, no fog lights in the front valance, and Pontiac NEVER offered a convertible that only sat 2 people, note the tonneau cover.

Indeed. But sometimes, to put back a car as "unkown" helps to better identify. In this case the model "Firebird" was indeed OK, not the year.

Actually- you all need to take a closer look. those are the 83-84 style (optional) ground f/x. You can tell because they are shorter in height than the standard T/A equipped 85-89 style. In 1984 they offerend the W-62 "aero package" as optional. Ground f/x weren't standard equipment until 1985. they also used the early style ground f/x on the 1983 Daytona Pace Cars (all 2k of them)

More proof- the front grille has the solid black parallogran details on them exclusive to the 1984 model year. A whole new front end was made for '85 that included a solid fascia with different flip up headlight bezels and a bunch of other detail changes.

Everyone is correct though this was not a factory offered convertible- it was done aftermarket. there were several companies that did these conversions.

It is most likely this car is a 1984 Trans Am (with the convertible modification)

Thank you, tuske427
If it hasn't have the PMD seats, it could be a Recaro Special Edition.

no its a Pontiac Trans Am you can tell by the gold trim at the bottom most T/As usually had it especially the 1982-83 T/As although the trim on those looked cleaner.

its a 84 trans am with the aero package, this was the first design of the ground effects they also cam eon the 15th anniversery cars.it also have the trans am fender vents(air extractors) and the trans am power bulge kitt hood,if youll also notiece the fender vents meet the bottom edge of the door which was last for 84 cause 85 they went to the diff ones that went higher and they had to make the vents shofter and the also had no mount a lip on the door so it would run straight with the ground effects so ITS A 84!!

bandit327 is right it's a 84 model but it was not first designed on the 84 model but on the 83 "Pace Car" model. By the way that car on the pic has PMD seats... very very rare for that year

It's a 1984 Trans Am... the 1984s had the added on front vent covers, to smooth out the lower nose valance... which later became the smooth nose of the 1985-88s. This is also the 1st year the Trans Am had the aero package. Also, those Pontiac trademark rims(same style used on Fiero, Firebird, 2000 Sunbird GT and Grand Ams) began being used in 1984. My friend owned a white version of this car, sans convertible top.

My brother had a 1982 black/gold Pontiac Trans Am 350HO... the exact replica of KITT, except his had lower gold trim. The 1982-83s had NO ground effects.

This is a 1984 trans am W62 aero pkg with PMD seats may by autoform out of Shawnee Oklahoma. For some strange reason it has PMD seats, Possible from a wrecked KITT car ??

PMD seats where NOT available from GM in 1984 AT ALL !!
