THREE STARS

The early 1970's family from Brooklyn (Spike Lee recalls childhood) goes on a roadtrip to Florida in their DS Safari.

By "safari" you mean the wagon version, I guess?

I can't imagine this being a very practical car for a struggling family from Brooklyn. These were expensive when new, and expensive to maintain and repair. Has sidemarkers, but does not have headrests (which would have been required starting in 1969), so my guess would be a 1968 model year, but I'm not an expert on these by any stretch. I think they were sold as "Station Wagon" in the US.

1968-71 front end and doorhandles, however I'm able to find a few US-spec post 1972 ones lacking headrests, so I'd say 1968-71.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I'm not at home where my reference books are to check on it. The headrest info was part of a discussion I had with Zodiac for MB headrests before. Maybe Citroen had a different method or exemptions. They never sold in great numbers here.

my experience growing up and struggling (still struggling sometimes lol) in brooklyn is this type of impractical car would be used by a poor family here without the slightest hint of irony for some reason (the idea being that it's easier to buy impractical things, use them and then endlessly complain to anybody willing to listen when your bad decisions backfire on you and you don't have a thing you need)

1970+ dashboard, 1971+ interior mirror, pre-1972 exterior door handles.
