Another Studebaker. This one is a 1963 Lark. Custom trim, per side chrome pattern. Note incorrect emblem on sail panel, not to mention non-stock 2-tone. -- Last edit: 2012-04-06 15:18:18 |

Was this one ever built in Canada? |

Studebaker did have a Canadian assembly plant but I don't know offhand in what years. Of course, after December of 1963, ALL Studebakers were built in Canada. |

Is this an authentic police car? |

That I couldn't answer. |

I believe the Canadian assembly plant was operational 1946 - 1966. I'm wondering if this right-hand drive example could have been Australian assembled? |

Hi , I have one of these back in South Africa and the badges were on it when I got it in 1986 and I remember others that had them as well, it also has the same trim . The only difference is the two tone paint. These cars were assembled in Uitenhage VW Plant in Port Elisabeth in South Africa . They came in as CKD kits and the local content was wheel rims , upholstry and a few other things like the wiring and also paint. I do not remember the exact percentage that was required. We only had the 259ci engine and 3 speed OD transmission and no heater. As far as I know there there were no 6 cylinder versions. They were well known as Police cars but as I remember them they were Black. |

Always interesting to hear about foreign-built Studebakers. That V-8 sail panel emblem with the crossed flags is similar to the pieces used on domestic '57 Presidents. |

Hi , nice to see someone is still following this, the emblem was apparently available in 64 for the Daytona so it is a mystery to me why we had it on the 63 Lark Standard in South Africa. I can still order the emblem new at Studebaker International in South Bend, Indiana. I have uploaded a pic of my car to the site so you can see what it looks like , I removed the emblems when I had it repainted in 2004 thinking they were wrong. Since then I have found out that they were mounted from new. |

Yes, quite so. The '64 and '65 Daytonas had that emblem. -- Last edit: 2013-07-14 21:28:38 |
