I don't think the hood ornament is a requirement for a 79 model; take a look at this 79 LTD from an episode of the The Incredible Hulk, that aired on April 6, 1979: /vehicle_470075-Ford-LTD-1979.html Also the clear side marker lights are unique to the 79s, in 1980 they became amber. |

Interesting; I suspect the hood ornament was a delete option to fleet buyers for several years in the late 70s as the brochures list it as standard, but we have several examples that prove otherwise. |
