I watched the video, but in the end what does that "extra" button do?

And  for the 900 destroyed in the video (though that it came from the junkyard I guess)

It made the orange upholstery go brighter orange.

The one destroyed was C689 SGX:

C689SGX

but I can't find it on DVLA, so probably off the road for a while.

Agreed, then we don't need another thread guessing what the 'extra' button does. It's a secret and you have to buy a 99 to find out!

The "extra" button was for any dealer modification you wanted..in reality it was used for extra lighting..a switch to turn "rally" lights on and off!

Usually, front driving lamps or fogs but BIRDIEMANGO uses it for something else.[Image: icon_biggrin.gif]

The extra button is usually a factory wired for dealer install accessories such as the fog lamp.

One time I rented an old white 1972 SAAB 99 during the service of my old 1972 SAAB 99. I tried the extra button on the white SAAB, the car went dead. So, I switched it back on and started the car up and went merrily :p

Most of the Saabs were provided by owners club - behind scenes photos at http://saabclub.co.uk/index.php/latest-news.html (as this is their Latest News page, the link may not remain direct for long). Also http://www.flickr.com/photos/51756248@N08/sets/72157629465506183/ .

Quote Chris Foxley has fitted a 900 intercooler to his '78 99 turbo. It fits behind the nearside headlight and Chris has fitted a fan to it to pull the air through. If I recall, Chris had to move the airbox/fuel distributor back an inch or two to get it to fit - this involved attacking the 'chassis' rail with a large hammer. The other alternative, which I've seen done on some websites, is to fit a larger, wider intercooler under the radiator - this involves using the front airdam off a 99 airflow kit, with vents cut into it for cooling. The standard 99t front spoiler doesn't give enough room.

Quote Nobody sweated the proceedings more than Mike (on behalf of Saab’s legacy and the good name of the Saab Owners Club). Honour without Honarium. Other members of the SOC particpated in similar spirit. Isn’t Chris Foxley’s 99 a Stunner!

We have a set of Saab Turbos - /vehicles_make-SAAB_model-Turbo.html - and another set as Saab 99 Turbos - /vehicles.php?make=SAAB&model=99+Turbo&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on . As far as I can see they are the same and should be merged. Do we prefer Turbo or 99 Turbo?

When I was a young motor mechanic myself, a colleague and my boss used to have lunch (fish and chips) with the Boss's mate the Owner, Ron Bailey, the Salesman, Cedric Cole, at Blacon Motors in Chester. I remember the SAAB Turbo being launched at Blacon Motors and I'm sure the first one I ever saw had a registration number very similar, if not the very DCA 54S. Can someone confirm this was Blacon Motors' demonstrator or have I deamt all of this?

99 should be the model name, not extra info.

@Dywlc - Yes this car came from Blacon Motors and would have been sold by Cedric. It's been owned by Chris Foxley since around 1979...I don't remember if it was a demo first, but he is only the second registered keeper. It's still in the area, Chris lives in North Wales.
