1973-74 Century. God, that was an ugly car! -- Last edit: 2012-03-06 15:32:05 |

Beauty is in the eye of the poster. To me, these GM sedans were quite possibly the best looking of all the 70's mid-sized automobiles. Really like the way the lines flow in silhouette view. The subject car is a '74 particularly, BTW. -- Last edit: 2012-03-06 17:54:58 |

I tend to agree with you re the styling, esp. the 4 door models. I used to have a '77 Olds Cutlass Brougham four door sedan (the last model year of the type that began in '73), which has the same roofline as the Malibus, Lemans and Centuries. Still think they look good (but a gas guzzler). I now think the Century looks the best of them all, however. |

I am glad you share your perspective on the A-body cars. I always liked them, especially the wagons. As I think about your statement, "best looking of all the 70's mid-sized automobiles", I agree with that wholeheartedly. I didn't mind the look of the MOPAR products, but the designs weren't styling leaders. Ford models just looked odd and "schlocky" to me. My aunt had a '73 Gran Torino with the Spring '73 "Luxury Decor Package". Yes, there may be some bias from an almost entirely GM-family, but that car was just hideous to me. LOL, she lived in Canada, and when she left it here during an overseas trip, and my Mother used it to take us to various activites, it was HUGELY embarassing! I liked washing cars as a kid, and would clean her car when she visited. The "hips" on the rear just looked like a dog in heat. The taillights also looked funky to me. The GM cars seemed to retain good-taste and dignity even in the "Brougham era". I am binge-watching Kojak at the moment, partly because I have only seen maybe one episode, but also to get drunk on 1970s cars, NYC, and overall style. |
