The original: /vehicle_2159-Ford-Mustang-1968.html I am disappointed that they chose to put a current (but invalid) 7-character license plate number (6OSM168) on a 1963-1969 yellow-on-black license plate. The yellow-on-black plates had three letters and three numbers, like JJZ109. They could have come up with an invalid, but more authentic license plate number.
Booster ◊ 2012-01-27 14:25	Yes I found that quite confusing as well, maybe they wanted to give that old school look with yellow-on-black plates to resemble even more to the original car. The plate in this one is actually 6QSM168, which is still invalid. That SM... Steve McQueen? They definitely should have had a 6 character plate with any skipped combination...

APS221 ◊ 2012-02-29 08:11	Ep. 1.08 was preempted by the delayed NASCAR Daytona 500, but I found it online. In the episode, I got a good view of the license plate. As you can see, the font/die used on the prop plates is not the same as the font used on actual California license plates. I made a mock-up of what the license plate should look like to illustrate the differences here: As you can see the font is different. On the prop plate, the "6" is curved like a "J." It should be diagonal. The "Q" is wrong, and the "1" should have a horizontal line at the base. It appears this plate was made in Canada, where the show is filmed. I have found that prop plates used in shows shot in California use the correct California font/die. However, I have found that the same California font is incorrectly used on plates from other states. One recent example I have found are the Kansas plates used on the show "Switched at Birth" (/movie_1758772-Switched-at-Birth.html). -- Last edit: 2012-02-29 10:25:13

I have also realized how many different state license plates are made with California plate font; presumably because the movie/series location is Los Angeles. Keep on with the good work, I find your plate comments quite interesting.

I don't know if you've read about it online, but the season finale will have a "Bullitt" chase homage shot in San Francisco with a modern Charger and a brand-new Mustang. Here you can see the stunt driver, Shauna Duggins, dressed as Sarah Jones dressed as Steve McQueen. You can also see the Charger's front license plate (8QMO917) is the same incorrect font. Here you can see the stunt driver again with the new Mustang. You can also see a green Beetle in the background. The plate on the Mustang (9ITT492) is also the incorrect font. -- Last edit: 2012-03-21 02:31:59
