 off topic question - why does most of the cars on french market those days have those odd yellow headlights?

 Until 1993 cars sold in France got yellow headlights. I am not sure of the real reason for this. I think that it is to be less dazzling/blinding (?) and they work better when there is fog. On the other hand, in normal weather the white lights work better.
In 1993 the France changed that to do like other European countries.

 Je m'étais laissé dire que les phares jaunes datent de la fin de la 2e guerre mondiale et permettaient de différencier les véhicules français des convois allemands aux phares blancs.... Après je ne sais pas si c'est vrai ou non :)

 Oui, c'est une plaque de Washington D.C. mais sur une Mercedes fabriquée pour le marché français - voyez les phares jaunes.
