I thought the Lotus Cortina was more a Touring car than a rally car, i guess it was multiskilled!

LHD, and registration is probably an age-related DVLA issue for a 1997 import, though probably a 1966 car. Modern classic car racing/retro rally photo, not period event.

Currently for sale - £47,000 - http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C283113 - "In 1994/5 3 totally original road going Mk1 Lotus Cortinas were imported from California by David Sutton and then prepared for FIA rallying at his workshops and this is one of them". Extensive retro-rally use in UK and Europe since then. US sales of Cortina Lotuses were limited to 168 Mk1 examples and only in 1965/6 - apparently they all had full-width front bumpers. The other David Sutton repatriated LCs included PRP 74D which has been modelled by MotorPro as a Code 3 conversion of the old Corgi Classics model Link to "www.swapmeetmodels.co.uk" . The third one was PRP 87D - picture in http://lotuscortina.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=21917&highlight=#21917 .

*"Such a timeless machine! The Lotus-tuned Cortina MkI really set the benchmark for performance saloons in the ’60s — light, quick, and so balanced. Amazing to see it still getting the appreciation it deserves!"*

Want me to make it sound more casual, like you're chatting with other car enthusiasts? Or more detailed, highlighting specs/history?

^ yes. There were 2 phases of Mk1 Cortina: 1st was Sept 62 to Sept 64 marketed as Consul Cortina, including the Lotus when it arrived in 63, had separate grill and sidelights and no pillar vents as your model. I think Ford had been gearing up to make Consul a sub-brand, so also Consul Classic, Consul Capri, and Consul Corsair. 2nd phase - Oct 64 to Sept 66 - minor facelift - new combined griil and sidelights, Aeroflow vents on C-piilar and eyeball vents on dash, all Consul references dropped so just Cortina, ditto for the Corsair.

So your model is 1st phase ("Mk1a") Consul Cortina Lotus, pictured car is 2nd phase ("Mk1b") Cortina Lotus as listed.
