Mk I as it lacks the Mk II badge visible on the right doors. I was not able to fir the related picture on the thumb but it lacks that badge, so it is a Mk I. Most of the few Imps sold in Italy were registered in 1964. They were imported till the end of 1970, only in the following versions: Mk I Hillman Imp De Luxe 1964-65. Mk II Hillman Imp De Luxe 1966. Mk II Sunbeam Imp De Luxe 1967-68 (Sunbeam badged for export countries since late '66) Mk III Sunbeam Imp De Luxe 1969-70 Sunbeam Imp Stiletto (so called here in Italy) 1967-70. Singer Chamois Mk I 1965 Singer Chamois Mk II 1966 Sunbeam Chamois Mk II 1967 Sunbeam Imp Sport Mk I 1967-68 I am not sure about later Sunbeam Imp Sport (1968-70) |

Thanks for the availability info - it will be a useful reference - and matches what I would expect, although I like the Sunbeam Imp Stiletto reference. Would love to see some of the later posh versions discovered in Italy. I think the Mk1/2/3 references for Imp ranges are a waste of time for imcdb - the Mk1/2 differences were so trivial that they don't really matter (the real improvement was to remove the pneumatic throttle and Rootes called it Mk2 as a marketing device to show they'd solved the problem, and then only for a short time in advertising/brochures) with only the front wing badge as an external identifier (although it stayed as part of the trim until 68). Mk3 is used sometimes for convenience for the Oct 68 onwards facelift cars - which are reasonably identifiable - but was never part of the official title, badging or included in advertising/brochures. My feeling is that we just remove Mk1/2/3 info as irrelevant in real terms. |

Dear dsl, it is very difficult to find Imps in Italy. I was born in 1961 and when I was a child I seldom saw them and most were of UK turists. I remember as seen: 1) a '64 de luxe in Balmoral grey in the very early '70 in Reggio Calabria (the south) I saw almost every day near a firends of mine home. 2) In 1980 when I was in the army I once saw one in a strange blue in a periferiv area of Bologna. As the colour was not an early one, it could be a later car in "Mood Indigo" or more likely a repainted old car. It was too far to say the version but it was a saloon and not a Chamois. 3) In the early 90's in Turino there was a medium red 1970 Mk III very well kept but it suddenly disappeared in the sad era of the "scrap old cars and buy a new one with a discount" 4) In the late '80 I saw a nice 1969 Marina green De Luxe in a scrap yard. 5) A '64 Loch Blue is proudly owned by an aged gentleman who loves UK cars and looks even like a UK gentleman of the past times. 6) In the early '90 another '64 in Loch blue was in Tuscany 7) At the same period in Asti (North West) a '64 Glenalmond green de luxe was in the hand of a collector. 8) The possibly lone Italian Imp Stiletto (in a blue metallic) was not seen by me but The original owner was selling it in the late '80. 9) A Britich man living in Turin owned in the late 70's a white UK registered Mk II Super Imp not in a fantastic shape. I guess it died in Italy. |
