Perhaps a Salmson Berline like here Link to "www.motorbase.com" ?

I know my suggestion isn't a perfect match, but there are at least some resemblences. (doors, shape of the coupe)

For me it is quite sure this is a Lancia. Typical Lancia wheels, stance of the rear wheels (swing axle), short front (V-engine), RHD, doors. Looks like a Pininfarina coachbuilt version of the Aprilia, but could not yet find matching pictures...

"For me it is quite sure this is a Lancia."

And it is right hand drive, in Italy.

The driver in the movie is an English gentleman living in Italy. So an English car would make sense. At the other hand, the Aurelias in this movie are also RHD...

You all appear to have missed my point, which is that Lancia did not make any left hand drive cars until about 1956, it is therefore unlikely that the car in the picture is anything other than a Lancia. The general design of the rear number plate also looks Italian, not English.

Not only that but...............

Link to "www.google.co.uk"

So it's a 1938 Lancia Aprilia Lusso Berlina, coachwork by Farina, imho.

I admit that both john from staffs and DynaMike should be right.
Sorry for having confused it with a Fiat.

I'm not sure though that the car in the link is actually what we see here :/ The fenders are more boxy...
