Opala was a GM product in Brazil. The base was the Opel Rekord, but the engines were USA design. A four cylinder (2500 cm3, or 152 in³), and a 6 cylinder (3800 cm³, or 232 in³). Later this 3.8 engine was enlarged to 4.1 liter (250 in³). The brand name Opala was a merger from Opel and Impala ( Impala was a top seller among imports). Opala is also the name of a semi-precious stone, in Portuguese. |
