This one is a bit puzzling .The body and grille match the 1949/50 AC 2 litre Buckland 4 seater Tourer with the exception of the headlights :those are integrated in the front fenders and placed low here , just above the bumper. In the Bucklands , the headlights were placed higher in pods at about half height of the grille. Allards had shorter front fenders not flowing into the rear ones.I also exclude the Alvis fourteen 2 litre sport and the Healy's , so feel at the end of my latin. Perhaps an English friend knows more ? |

Everything about this car says AC Buckland apart from the position of the headlights. It seems inconceivable that AC would have let anyone else use their body, so this is probably an early prototype. The low position of the headlights would be against the Construction and Use Regulations, but the car may predate this. |

Construction and use regulations for minimum headlamp height were in force after September 1950 I believe. |

This is indeed an AC Buckland, probably 1950 as it has the later 16 inch wheels (versus 17 inch). The headlight arrangement appears to have been a one-off. The rear wing also differs slightly from standard, enclosing the wheel more than usual. It isn't the prototype Buckland, however. Registration number is LNK 289, which also appeared on another Buckland. Coachwork was by Buckland Body Works. To my knowledge, the car has not survived. |

A Buckland drophead features in 'Folly to be Wise' made the following year, also with Alastair Sim. Registration no. not seen, seemingly not the same car - the headlights on the 'lowline' Paradise car are in different position. Might it have been a coachbuilt body? -- Last edit: 2016-08-05 23:36:53 |
