 Sure about 3? It was sold as 323F here and Protege5 in the USA and 3 was only used for the next model in both cases.

Mid 2001 (so MY2002?)-03 [BJ].

 Though the plate is fake in this scene, it is the real plate's combination and returns as a 2003 Protegé. The 52cm plate on the tiny US cake tin can be seen in episode 4.

 A North American Protegé would have amber indicator lenses.

And because the car has a fake plate in this shot I suspect that it is a European-spec 323 doubling for the Protegé.

 You don't understand. It has a fake plate in this scene, that's true, but in episode 4 it has a real Russian plate with the same combination. I checked that and it came back as a 2003 Protege. Possible that it was sold as a Protege in some Southeast Asian countries in European specification.

 What I mean is that the car in this particular shot is not the same car as the Protegé with the "cake tin".

But it has Protege tail lights too. Not sure why they would use two different specs for one car.

 I've been trying to say all along that two different cars were used.

Three star role, so important enough that the film crew might want a back-up in case the car broke down. Keeping the actors and crew waiting while someone tries to fix a car gets very expensive very quickly.

 I can understand that, but still I won't let the idea go that it's a Protege, despite the lacking sidemarker.
