Scania-Vabis L40? |

No doubt about Scania-Vabis, but I've no idea of the model names (there's no L 40 on this site, yet). I thought this might be a Dutch produced truck ('Westfriesland' is a region North of Amsterdam), but the (big) Dutch Scania-Vabis factory didn't start before 1965. |

Wonder what they made of Whitbread beer ( the trailer) in West Friesland? |

@DynaMike: Yes, you aren't a specialist in beer, but was/is it possible to see in the Netherlands a truck, even a tanker, loaded with British beer? Seems very unlikely, or? Otherwise, in contrast to Germany I've seen in bigger Dutch supermarkets beer, made in UK, for example Newcastle Brown Ale. (...an Marmite, too... ) |

Since the Dutch were always very active in international trade we often organised the transport of non-dutch goods as well. I remember that I often saw foreign trailers towed by dutch tractors... |

Possibly NAAFI supplies for BAOR? Nowadays I keep seeing Dutch and Belgian trailers being towed by Polish and Bulgarian tractors. |

Yes, times have changed... And now the populist right-wing politicians and their supporters are complaining about a 'tsunami' of foreigners taking over our jobs |

@chris40: due a newer EU-law it's lucrative to flag trucks out to Cyprus or Malta. So sometimes you can see trucks from German or other Middle European transport companies with Cypriotic plates. Otherwise for insurance- and fleet-cost-reasons some trailer-rental-companies let register them in Germany. So one of the biggest Romanian transport-company uses tractor-trailers with German plates. |

Weekly Whitbread tank trailers were transported by Tilbury - Antwerp (Bardic Ferry) to the the Brussels bottling company. The Dutch Westfriesland Scania L61 was here used on the Antwerp - Brussels run. |

The long bonnet indicates it covers a six cylinder engine. The truck is definitely of model L71 due to the shape of the front bumper. Viewing other things, e.g. the Be-Ge cabin and the lock handles of the bonnet, you can also say the truck should be manufactured around 1956-58. |
