D'oh! BBC and Telegraph say the same.

It will probably be obsolete by then.

As a primary car it’s not going to be that great, due to its limitations, but it would make a perfect second car for running short-distance localized errands.

"It just sort of hums like a Trappist monk" was my favourite part of Jeremy's description. :D

Except Trappist monks don't hum as far as I know, he may be thinking of Zen Buddhists.

Looks much better than James' Peugeot Ion

Indeed. Peugeot could have rebadged that one: the front is more in the same style as current Peugeot models :D

Well, actually you can´t compare a Leaf and ION/C-Zero/i-Miev, cause they aren´t from the same category. The Leaf is a compact hatch like a Focus or a Golf, as the ION is a small hatchback like a Hyundai i10. I agree with James and Jeremy, that every electric car is technically quite good. But here in Germany you get a well equipped Ford Mondeo TDCi, VW Passat TDI or a standard BMW 318d. I think you´d rather buy one of these than spending money on a car, where you couldn´t even drive on holidays.

For those who haven't heard, the test was a *FRAUD*. The Nissan was made to run out of power exactly where they wanted it to...

The show is scripted, so not much of a surprise. I can’t believe some people hold up Top Gear as the definitive authority on all things automotive. The show is meant for "entertainment" purposes only, to make us laugh, not to be taken literally.

It's scripted but they shouldn't be faking to that extent. Nissan has a right to complain since their car was misrepresented.

Of course it´s really unfair to fake such an important test. But let´s assume you own a Leaf or a C-Zero. You won´t drive to the city every day and you won´t drive only about 40 to 100 miles all the time. Sometimes the day will come where you have to drive to the countryside, where you haven´t got a battery-charging station yet. So although the test is a fake, the result is correct. If the battery is empty you could stop everywhere.

Such problem happens with petrol car too :p (even if it is easier to solve)
If you drive it until it stops, ignoring warnings, it stops.

I have been wrote long article about EV-1. One owner (oh, leaseholder actually) said one day there was an accident on highway and he must choose next exit than wanted, with weak batteries abroad: "Oh, I was worry about reaching home, thought frantically what turn off else. The scene similar to Apollo 13".
