It does not have to be a Royce, from the evidence shown, nor does it have to be a Corniche. At least one Bentley T-series Mulliner-Park Ward drophead coupe with left hand drive was exported to America, chassis no CXB 6357 dated 21st February 1969. Whilst I am not suggesting that this is that car, the door handles and the swage line along the bodywork are almost identical, and the car could have been re-finished with two tone colours. Also, unless someone else has better eyes or a bigger screen, I don't see Miss Thornton standing on the radiator, unless this car has the disappearing option. -- Last edit: 2011-07-23 12:06:26 |

As far as I can tell, this matches late 70s onwards Corniche (bumpers, hubcaps, livery) which was much more common as RR than Bentley. Other permutations/updates of earlier cars are perfectly possible, but unless we can pull out something specific and/or out of place, probability from numbers made/exported would suggest late 70s-mid 80s RR Corniche. |

This episode dates from 1979/80, which would tie in with this being a fairly new car with rubber high impact bumpers which were introduced circa 1974/5 onwards. The seats, mirrors and the colour scheme of the car establish that is a later than that, post 1976, making this a nearly brand new car at the time, which in California were available for a rental anyway. I see no reason why this would be one of the relatively rare Bentley's. SO: 1977 Rolls Royce Corniche II Convertible by H.J.Mulliner, Park Ward -- Last edit: 2011-07-26 13:48:29 |
