The Porsche 930 in Raise the Titanic was a 1977 Turbo Carrera . That model was introduced in 1976. I know this particular car well... It was mine. I was contacted by the movie production company very late one evening -- they needed the car immediately as shooting was beginning the next day. I honestly thought it was a con game when they came to the house at 11 PM. I had the flu but was clearheaded enough to tell them I would deliver it to the base hotel the next day. They'd gotten my name from a friend in the Porsche Club. He had been the first one contacted -- he owned a shocking metallic blue 1976 911 with a factory tail added later and an aftermarket turbo. His car was unavailable as the engine was in pieces in the shop. I arrived at the Key Bridge Marriott at about 8:30 AM and signed the contract for use. The car was insured for many more thousands than it cost. I was to be paid $100 a day for an expected 21 days -- not bad for the time. The car was used for 6 days and I was paid for 11. Almost all scenes with the car were left on the cutting room floor, including one at a "fake" White House created in Leesburg, Virginia.

My wife and I were invited to the shooting of a series of scenes at a magnificent house in Georgetown, not far from the infamous Exorcist steps. When we arrived, the DC Fire Department was hosing down the street and the Georgetown University dorm building across from the house -- it was supposed to be a rainy night. The street was blockaded and a police officer told us we could not enter. I told him we were invited as our car was in the movie... he stepped back, looked over our 1979 Rabbit Diesel and laughed. I said: "Not this car!" He made a call on his radio and we were admitted. We watched as several scenes were shot in the lower level library -- all very interesting. I introduced myself and my wife to Jason Robards and then to Richard Jordan (Dirk Pitt). I asked Jordan if he liked the car -- mind you, he was a very tall man. He said it was too small and that his feet didn't fit in the footwell but thanked me for making the car available.

We sold the car in 1979 and bought a new one.

Turbo Joe beautiful car. I'm 51 years old and just saw the movie on YouTube. Not sure if I ever saw it as a kid can't remember. Looks like a non sunroof car from the high shots and if so very rare in USA. I have a 77 turbo Carrera that was originally silver , now restored as arrow blue. Only a handful of non sunroof cars that year. My vin number VIN 9307700430 . Any chance it's the same car ?

Would you be interested in selling your car? I have been looking for it for a while.
