1986+ Suzuki Alto. EDIT: or rather 1988+ Maruti Suzuki 800, by the badge. -- Last edit: 2011-06-29 18:42:09 |

Sure. Many European countries got the Indian produced model instead of the Japanese. |

Maruti. About the spreading of Marutis in Europe. So were in these mentioned countries Maruti 800 and Suzuki Alto sold parallel? By the same dealers, or had Maruti an own distribution? Were there European countries, where you only could buy the Maruti, but not the Suzuki? -- Last edit: 2011-06-29 22:12:59 |

Yes, France, because of the japanese import quotas. The latter half of the eighties was the era of the Maruti 800, the Santana S410 and the GME Rascal, all of them rebadged Suzukis made elsewhere than in Japan to escape the dreaded quotas. |

E.g. in Poland it was 1st "Maruti Suzuki 800" imported by company not related with Suzuki, but when it turned out to be some sucess, Suzuki Motor Poland re-introduced this (still Indian made) model on its own - this time after small cosmetic changes it was named "Suzuki Alto 800". |
