Japanese Mk3s as RHD were built in UK. Mk3s for J were narrowed slightly to fit into a lower tax category - this was not done by changing the bodywork but by clamping and squeezing with a compression jig across the rear door openings on the Dagenham production line before the trim was fitted. This was not always successful - when the jig was unscrewed some bodies sprang back and were re-allocated for UK distribution, but if they held shape they went to J. Mk3s were also assembled in Amsterdam, not Genk (which only started with the Mk4 and TC2 clone in 1977). |

Not a GXL as I first thought but June 72 - Sept 73 GT (which had the thicker GXL chrome grille bars but with a centre badge as here; also no vinyl roof). The only reason I looked at it again was jfs's Genkisms ... |
