They were available with the 5.0 liter pushrod 305 cid small block V-8 with electronic spark control (ESC). The bigger, torque happy 5.7 liter pushrod 350 cid small block V-8 had been discontinued from the Caprice lineup throughout these model years. Was it still available on the police versions? |

I'm not completely sure. But here is a wikipedia article that it seems someone recently made on the 1986-1990 Caprice 9C1. It's not exactly up to wikipedia standards but assuming that its correct, outlines what you want to know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Caprice_9C1_Police |

So according to that article it was available on the police sedan, assuming the article is correct. I find it odd though that the 350 cid V-8 didn’t get electronic throttle-body fuel injection until 1989. I thought the cars (even the police ones) all received fuel injection well before that time... |

The earlier small-blocks did get a lot of the updates that the TBI small-blocks did in the trucks for 1987, just not the actually fuel injection for some reason. Yet the 4.3 V6 available in the Caprice in those years HAD been fuel injected! |
