No circle around the stars on the radiator, so would this be a pre-1926 Mercedes (without Benz) with a newer body? |

Seems there were several like this around at that time - presumably owned by the studio. There has been some information about who owned what but not sure where. |

Packard with a Mercedes 540K radiator! |

Packard sounds a good idea. But this is not a 540 K radiator, it must be older. |

Is there a good close shot of a wheel anywhere? Might give a clue to the origins of the chassis. The stance of the car does not look like early 1920s Mercedes - suggested by the radiator - it is too low and wide. I wonder if it is a Chrysler Imperial like this one - http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/chrysler-1.jpg - note the three chrome strips on the front edges of the rear fenders, the chrome edged two piece windshield and the hood doors. Also compare the door handle and hinges with this one - /vehicle_18196-Chrysler-Imperial-1932.html . The bumpers date from around 1937. If I am correct what do we call it? Is it made for movie or is it a Chrysler with modifications? There are a couple of Packards with later bodies that have been identified by their original chassis so perhaps we should call this a Chrysler Imperial? -- Last edit: 2011-05-19 23:00:39 |

It's a 1932-33 Chrysler Imperial with a Mercedes Grille. |
