They´ve tested its top speed, cause the registration document says, that it can do 180 km/h. |

The RO 80 is not a high speed car. It's even a bad sign, when it goes faster every time, you drive the top speed. This goes together with starting problems - a precosur-combination, that the engine will be exhausted quite soon. |

Well, the keeping 160-170 km/h is far better for this engine than slooooooow-mooooootion journeys to dairy shop, few kilometers from home only. :P However you're right. The Ro80 is excellent car for gently & moderate fast cruising, with its soft suspension. |

How about Ro80 with RX7 engine? |

Although there were indeed some enervated Ro 80-owners in the 70s who fitted their cars with Ford V4 engines (from the 12m/15m/17M range) in order to make them more reliable, the purists today would crucify you for doing a Mazda engine-swap. |

The Ford V4 was the worst choice, as this rough iron-cast is much to weak for the weight. So it will cause a terrible performance, much noise and a really horrible fuel consumption. There were a few RO 80 with Porsche 924-engines, but except the extreme work for that (the fellow, who had done that, has extended the engine-space), in-line engines are too high for the flat RO 80-nose. So it outstanded at the botton, with the result, that just slightly rougher roads have caused danger for the oil-pan. There were some conversions to Citroen Boxer-engines (but rhe GS-engine was too weak, too) and the last RO 80, existing in Israel (many years ago) got a Subaru-boxer-engine. But this became all more useless, as nowadays Wankel-engines are reliable and durable (but the thirst will never be low), due the modern Mazda-technology. It's not neccessary to change the whole engines, it's o.k., when you use Madza-gaskets, sealings and moving parts while restoring a RO 8o-engines. There are a few specialists for that. As their prices are high, good connections to able freaks are very recommended. If you have and use them, holding and using a RO 80 will not be a drama, not even for non-specialists. |

UK had some Ro80s with Ford 3-litre V6 conversions - problems similar to ingo's notes for Ford V4, but better speed. UK V4s came from Corsair or Transit. Some RX-5 and RX-7 transplants as well. A few years ago I read about a Skoda 120LS with an RX-7 conversion - excellent lateral thinking. |

Something is not orginal here.. It has the large 1976 taillights, but no rubbers on the bumpers, the kinked grille from the first years, but the newer upright headlights. I smell cobblework... |
