I coordinated supplying this truck for this production. I worked at a Fontana trucking company, and periodically a picture car company would call, and ask for big trucks. One day in 2003 or 2004 they called about this. I did the research, that Reginald Denny was driving a red International 4300 pulling bottom dumps, when he was attacked. I found a 4300 2-axle and got a quote to paint it red. But that was not in the budget; they just wanted a red truck. Well, I knew that All American Asphalt/More Truck Lines in Corona had a fleet of bright red Petes, so I called over there, stopped by, and set it up. One day of shooting on a weekend. They sent one of their senior drivers down there with a set of hoppers. I was told that first thing they asked the guy was whether they could smash out all the glass in the tractor. That was a strong "NO," so they applied a film which imitates the look of broken glass. The check cleared and that was it. I remember that the company was still running paper disc Sangamo Tachographs in their trucks at the time, mounted on the floor between the seat and the door; the discs were all over the office. |
