Wow, so here's where the idea of 1988 Passat look came from. And the idea of the rear end look is something that might have inspired Honda in creating CRX. |

I think it was - just like in case of the most of the concept cars - publicity test. It takes several years (often about 7) to make the look of some 'car from space' acceptable for general public, and you have to make sure if you have taken right direction. Maybe they have indeed in mind to make Scirocco II out of this, but surely it would have come out not before the end of the decade. |

I wasn't talking about development, but about looks. It took Volkswagen several years to launch mere full-sized bumpers, nothing about those round corners. Ford tried it in 1983 with Sierra and it wasn't considered cool back then, rather non-attractive. And it was for sure Scirocco II prototype, but neverthless design of this was offset 7 years later in Passat looks, leaving '82 Scirocco with typical early-80's boxy body. |
