Too much dry and synthpopish in 1980's style, I prefer more "wet" (not the best term maybe :p ) sounds of the earlier synthesizers - to ca 1982. period.

I couldn't stand Yazoo. There was a theory that Alison Moyet was really a relaunch stage name for Demis Roussos, minus the beard, but still in the same kaftan...

I never liked Yazoo either, though it's much better than all the crap they play nowadays (Rihanna, Bieber, GaGa, Perry etc). Among my favourite 80s synthpop bands are Talk Talk, a-Ha and Tears for Fears. It's not my favourite genre though, I prefer late 80s-ca. 1992 house music.

Sandie SX

Anything is better than that stuff!

Last night I had a nice time listening to a-Ha and Tears for Fears.

My neighbours however, did not like that I forgot to put the headphones in at 1AM.

Oh, now you have said something - it was a reason for a little displeasure between me and my wife :( While I've enjoyed (slightly drunk, the stomach full with delicious food) premium-class classics like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1_bmDBos3Q&feature=related

If you sift carefully, there is some good Demis Roussos stuff to be found. But for the hardcore Demis, you need to go back to his Aphrodite's Child days alongside the then unknown Vangelis. The album 666 is ... um ... ambitious. I always liked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiS4arlBI9U and the slightly strange http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFChrJpCYrA but it then gets seriously weird - any of the other tracks from 666 on youtube....

For cl82, Alberto Y Los Trios Paranoias recorded "Happy To Be On (An Island Away From) Demis Roussos" but no youtube match found so try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t95BrIoJkE as a consolation.

@Ingo: Me too, believe me, but Demis Roussos' solo-work is just too much, at least for me.
@dsl: Nothing against Aphrodite's child. Not my cup of tea actually, but at least it was "different" or as you said ambitious. There were better Prog-Rock bands, but at least they tried, and "666" was a bold move. Thanks a lot for the 3rd link, too.

Antoine will surely be mollified, when he knows, that some Belgian music belongs to my favourites. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=andre+brasseur&aq=f ;) It was not really easy to find the "best of"-CD, no remake of it since 1988. For the neighbours in a traffic jam nearly surprising as a tuned up original Scottish Pipes-and-Drums-CD :D Yes, I have them, too.

@Lateef this Japanese(?) band was closer. Although in my case, I can find old "electronic sounds" nice in most of genres - funk, even disco also mixed with classic instruments. So it can be typical el. music, like the one mentioned by Gomselmash, or similar. Well used moog also gave excellent atmosphere. Also new wave songs with synthesizer parts are usually interesting. But then, around 1983 much has changed IMO. Classic "electronic" still had the old spirit, but started to play less important role and mainstream synthpop became more heavy and its sound was somehow less "innocent". ;) In case of arrangement there is quite big difference even between early British new romantics (1980/81), and such Tears for fears (Shout!) from 1983 (for me, difference in minus). Yazoo on the other hand was too primitive.
Ah and BTW, it is also not my most favorite genre. xD

ingo wrote Aha...

:D I said to ca 1982! BTW this Sabrina's videoclip was played a lot in the late 1980's Polish TV wish gig (where people send to each other wishes via TV). It was broadcast on saturday afternoon IIRC. Generally very stiff show, although what song will be added by TV to wishes was usually a kind of lottery. "To celebrate the 80th birthday of Mr. Jan from Włodawa and the upcoming 50th anniversary of the wedding, all the best wish wife - Anna together with children and 3 grandchildren. We (TV) of course joins those wishes and dedicates Mr. Jan a song "Boys, boys...".
