That's true, but why they have listed it as 1953 is very interesting...

There are a lot of errors in the DVLA database. If you import an old car in you might not have the year right.

True... I never knew ARO was exported here, that's interesting. :)

The ARO 10 was sold here as the Dacia Duster through the 80s. I don't know anything more.

This model wasn't. IIRC the only model imported in the UK was the ARO10 (as the Dacia Duster).

Dacia Denem Oct 82 until Dec 83 only - in standard, L, GL and GLX saloon + standard and GL estate versions.
Dacia Duster April 84 introduced as GLX, Feb 87 GL added, Dec 88 Roadster Plus edition added, Dec 89 GLD diesel added. GL stopped August 90, all others stopped Jan 93.

Ah yes, I forgot about the Denem ... yes we did get it, but it wasn't very popular (as dsl's post indicates - 14 months). I don't remember ever seeing one; and the two or three Dusters I saw were for some reason in Lincolnshire.

There was also the pickup. http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?q=dacia gives a grant total of 15 Dacias left now, but it looks as if a fair few GLXs were sold.

Edit. compared to now about 200 Ladas (I can't be arsed to add them all up), 4 Polski Fiats, 12 Volgas, and 10 Moskviches. And 35 Merc 600s [W100].

So this ranking proves, that a Polski Fiat is the most exclusive car, followed by the Mossi and the Volga - and the Mercedes 600 a wide spreaded mass-vehicle.

P.S. A few AROs were sold in West Germany, too. Recently there was a story about a lady, who uses one still as all-day-car. It was said, that the ARO has a plenty of parts, different to the GAZ, so it makes no sense to buy a GAZ-wreck for spare parts. The GAZ is a bit easier to get here, due the left-overs of the Red Army, when they finally disappeared from East Germany in 1994.

In German we say: "A statistics is like a light post. But the most people doesn't use it for getting the epiphany, they need it for holding theirselfs as bloats do"

:??: It's either a very strange saying or doesn't translate well. Is it saying most people use statistics to confirm their own opinions and prejudices, instead of allowing the facts to emerge openly?

I have tried to translate it back and forth a number of times. I think it could be something like: Statistics is like a lighthouse. Most people don't use it for guidence but to keep themself afloat.

I don't know just a guess, at least it makes more sense...

This car is a private import. Many Romanian vehicles were sold in the UK - ARO 24, ARO 10, TV, and ROMAN lorries too. But most had an appallingly short life expectancy. The denem is extinct in its on-the-road guise, but rumours do exist about at least one estate stored from new in a barn.... And more recently there's a private import Dacia Sport.

Statistics are like a lamppost. Most people don't use it for the light, but for holding on to when they're drunk. (I think.)

I think it is later one, because filler cap is behind small lid, in early ones it wasn't.

EDIT: this covered filler cap had to be introduced around 1970/71, judging by the brochures posted here: http://www.arom461.ro/brosuri.html
1970: http://www.arom461.ro/press-report/brosuri/TARE1.jpg
1971: http://www.arom461.ro/press-report/brosuri/dei-dacia/dei-dacia-pag3.jpg

Cars delivered in 1969 still had old one.
