1983 Chevy Impala. |

Why '83? |

Obviously a guess. It's anywhere between a 1981-1985 model. |

Would it be alright if I changed all the "guessed" years on some listings to their legitimate year ranges? Looking through the pages there's a lot of cars listed like this... it seems overdue to be fixed. |

I've been doing that on-and-off for as long as I can remember now. But as of late I was focusing on other vehicles. Sure, you can help me. I know it may seem a bit mundane but what I do now whenever I change a vehicle is that I actually comment the proper year range, just for reference. Because I feel that if I simply list it as a 1981 model, for example, then your average Joe who comes onto the site might think it's specifically a 1981 model. |

Exactly! A precise year should never be stated unless one is sure. (Even in the title line, it really should be listed as a range.) Also, if you don't know, don't "guess". Just say things like "possibly a 1983" or maybe a 1983" or "1983 could be right", etc. (Best to just use possible ranges.) -- Last edit: 2009-09-30 15:26:29 |

Well this comment was back from 2006, and that was the year when I think the site really grew so you had a lot of people throwing guesses out there and there were fewer administrators (less Americans also) to verify. But you're right Commander_57, that's the "policy" we like to follow. And I'm not sure about a range being included in the title. I know it's been brought up before. I can see some benefits coming from it, but I think that the format would have to be changed around a bit. |

If such a format change is possible, I think it would be well worth it, for the sake of accuracy. |

Would be even more work when updating the info of vehicles |

All 1980-85 Impalas have fender mounted turn signals, while all 1980+ Caprices have wrap around units. It's as simple as that, no exceptions. |

taxiguy is correct, there are no differences at all that I know of between the 1980-1985 models, with the exception of the grille on the 1980 model. |

Without rocker panel moldings this would be a Canadian Bel Air. |

Why 1981 instead of 1980? We can't see enough of the grille. |

Indeed. |

New pics show that it is an Impala, and we can see a little of the grille and it is a 1981+ |

I think the 'Impala' may be stuck in the wrong place at the C-pillar I think I'll go along with somename's assessment on lack of rocker panel trim here. |
